Article of Definiton

I found an article about doctor's bedside manner called "Study: Doctors show little empathy." It talks about how most doctors have little to no bedside manner. They recorded 20 conversations between doctors and their patients with 384 opportunities for the doctor to show some empathy, but the doctors only made 39 comments. That's pretty sad. The question of definition here is are all doctors all so apathetic?? I think that they should have done more recordings because I have never really had a problem with doctor's bedside manner. A lot of people seem to think otherwise though apparently...

I've never really had a problem with any of my doctors either! But thats sad that so many patients are being treated by doctors that appear to just not care? I'm glad you pointed this out though - now I'll try even harder to be a very sympathetic and caring nurse!

I think that we are also from Texas, a nicer southern state. I think smaller towns also give doctors privileges of getting to know their patients. In big towns each patient is just a paycheck, it seems to me. By the way, lets play some world of warcraft and get some arena points.

I've never had a problem with doctors bedside manner, but I can see where they are coming from. It could be the don't want to get attached to patients because something bad might happen and they feel upset about it, after a lot of patients this could take a toll on someone.
